Have you heard of a new book being promoted by the author when you watched a late night program and you’re excited to read it? Or a good friend recommends a book that was published 5 or 6 years ago, but when you go to your library you discover that they don’t have it. What do you do?
First, go to the circulation desk and tell someone that there’s a book you really want to read, but the library doesn’t own it. Second, a staff member will give you a Request for Purchase slip to fill out. On this slip you put the title, author, ISBN # (not required, but helpful), your name, phone number and the date of the request.
All the book request slips for the adult collection are searched in our catalog, searched for reviews and searched on our book vendors site. If a requested title has good reviews, is written by a popular author or other patrons would want to read it, then it is considered for purchase. If the title is available it is added to an order.
When the book arrives at the library, the request slip you filled out is placed in the book. It is then catalogued, labeled, covered and stamped! Then you are called and the book is placed on the hold shelf, ready for checking out!
