An Unexpected Party

A party of special significance will be offered September 22 at 7pm in the library’s lower level to celebrate the premiere of  THE HOBBIT:  AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY;  a movie to be released December 14th of this year.  Refreshments will be served, music will be played and poems will be recited!  Bring your favorite passages to read.  Original works are welcome.  Dress up and have fun with the B.C. Tolkien Society.  Door prize, trivia, games and friends.

Those of you familiar with the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien  know that “An Unexpected Party” refers to Bilbo’s first encounter with Gandalf the Grey and the Dwarves and the beginning of a great adventure.

While grading papers in his classroom one day, Professor Tolkien turned one sheet over and wrote on the back  “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit”.  The book THE HOBBIT was first published in 1937.
